A sixteen year-old SS2 female student of a private school in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State reportedly faked her kidnap and demanded a payment of N2 million ransom for her release.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Joshua Ukandu confirmed the incident, stating that a family friend also helped her in planning the fake kidnap.
As revealed, the 16-year old girl is a native of Izzi Local Government Area and she attends a private school located on Watchman Street in Abakaliki.
The PPRO while giving her account of the story, the girl claimed to have gone to buy second hand clothes,a.k.a Okirika, before someone suddenly tapped her from behind after which she claimed to have lost consciousness and woke up the next day at Ishieke Junction in Ebonyi Local Government Area.
She added that she frequently dreams of being kidnapped, and prays regularly against it.
After regaining consciousness, she added that she asked for directions back to Abakaliki town. She however went to a family friend house who was unaware of her missing instead of returning back home.
She used the man’s phone to message her brother while claiming she has been kidnapped and demanded for a N2 million ransom. Her brother demanded to speak with the kidnappers and asked for their location but she declined and blocked his number.
Afterwards, she unblocked his number and sent the account number of the family friend hosting her to him. Unfortunately for her, the phone was tracked. The police raided the house and arrested everyone involved in the scheme.
The police spokesperson affirmed the commencements of full investigations on the incident. He added that the girl, due to her age has been reunited with her family while the matter remains under investigation by the police.
