An ex-convict, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, has been apprehended by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command while attempting to rob a motorist on the Mile 12 Bridge in the early hours of Tuesday.

The suspect, a 28-year-old male, was arrested by patrol officers from the Ketu Division around 1:30 am on May 13, 2025. He was reportedly armed with a knife and attempted to dispossess a male driver of his belongings when the police arrived.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and obtained on Wednesday from the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the Lagos State Police Command, the quick response of the patrol team was instrumental in foiling the robbery attempt and apprehending the suspect.

“Patrol officers of Ketu Division have arrested one Olayinka Oluwaseyi ‘m’, aged 28, while attempting to rob a male motorist on Mile 12 Bridge. The suspect, who was armed with a knife, was arrested on May 13, 2025 at about 1:30 am.

“His swift arrest was made possible by the timely intervention of the patrol team. One other suspect involved in the attempted robbery is currently at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend him,” the statement said.

According to the police, another suspect narrowly escaped from the scene, but efforts are underway to track him down and ensure his arrest.

“One other suspect fled the scene and is currently at large. However, efforts are ongoing to ensure his arrest,” the statement noted.

Further investigations revealed that Oluwaseyi had only recently regained his freedom, having been released from prison three months ago for committing a similar offence in Lagos.

The suspect is presently in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers of the Ketu Division for their vigilance and professionalism.

Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding Lagos of all forms of criminal activities, particularly traffic-related robberies. He urged residents to stay alert and assist the police by reporting suspicious individuals or activities within their environment.

“We remain resolute in our efforts to make Lagos safer for everyone,” the police chief stated.

The command has assured the public of continued security surveillance across the state, especially in areas prone to criminal activities.
