Governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum has revealed new counter-insurgency strategies after meeting with the Federal government following recent attacks across the state.

Zulum on Saturday, expressed that his administration is committed to strengthening local security and the well-being of the people. He adds that his government will improve intelligence gathering and provide security personnel with the right tools to combat insurgency.

The Governor notes that President Bola Tinubu and the Service Chiefs have firmly assured their support to the state. Zulum also stressed the importance of reinforcing volunteer forces such as local vigilantes, in addressing its persistent security challenges.

He added that the government will continue to improve community-based intelligence networks and early warning systems. The Governor in his speech, warned the residents against collaborating with armed groups, either individually or as a community.

He also addressed the water scarcity affecting Maiduguri and its surrounding areas, attributing the crisis to a lack of infrastructure. He therefore appeals to the residents to be patient as efforts are being made to fully re-establish the water supply.

Zulum also announces the reconstitution of the Anti-Social Vices Committee to curb rising criminal activities in Maiduguri. He calls on citizens, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society groups to support peace-building efforts in the state.

The Governor also called on Borno residents to go on a voluntary fast today, seeking divine intervention for stability. According to him, fasting is a communal expression of shared hope through prayer and reflection.

He adds that unity and strength can be renewed, while purpose can be restored through fasting and prayer. Zulum continued by extending his condolences to the family of military personnel who lost their lives in recent attacks.

The Governor concludes his speech by praying for the families of the military personnel, for strength to bear the loss.
