The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has announced a cash reward of N5 million for anyone who provides credible information that leads to the recapture of inmates who recently escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesha, Osun State.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Deputy Controller of Corrections and Public Relations Officer of the Service, Umar Abubakar.

According to Abubakar, the Service is appealing to the general public to assist security agencies in tracking down the fleeing inmates.

“In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates,” the statement read.

He stressed that the safety and security of the public is a priority and that the Service is working closely with other agencies to ensure the re-arrest of the escapees.

“We urge members of the public not to panic but to remain vigilant and support our efforts by reporting any suspicious movement or information about the inmates at large,” he said.

The statement also assured Nigerians that all reports will be treated with utmost confidentiality and anonymity. “All information provided will be handled with strict confidentiality. The identities of informants will not be disclosed under any circumstances,” Abubakar stated.

“We are counting on the cooperation of well-meaning Nigerians. This is a matter of national security and collective responsibility,” Abubakar concluded.
