Abia State Government has announced the acquisition of 20 electric buses. The state governor, Alex Otti, disclosed this while addressing the Aba community on the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road.

According to the governor, the new buses will become available for public usage by July. Alex Otti narrated that his government has reconstructed the road with 36.5 billion naira, recalling past administrations abandoned it for over 3 decades.

According to him, this recent development in his administration will lead to a sustainable lifestyle for the people in the state.

He added that bus terminals have been built for the transport system in the state while the 20 electric buses would be for the first batch. Otti reassured the community that the government has completed the payment for the buses, explaining they won’t use either petrol or gasoline.

Speaking at the event, Otti criticized his political opponents including officials from his previous administration. The state governor described them as noise makers following criticisms over the completed Port Harcourt road.

According to him, the former administration under Governor Okezie received 9.8 billion naira in 2017 but failed to deliver. Otti added that his administration undertook the project in 2025 with 36.5 billion Naira at the current exchange rate.

The state governor continued by appreciating the thanksgiving carnival organized for him in the Aba community. He lauded the community for their sustained support since 2015 when he contested the governorship election for the first time.

Otti also commended a Keke driver with 1.4 million naira, for returning 2.4m naira forgotten by a passenger. The organizer of the carnival, Onyeka Udeajah, appreciated the governor, noting that the road stood out among the governor’s achievements.

Also, the Speaker of the State Assembly, among others, expressed that the leadership of the governor is a commendable one.
