Labour Party’s flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has said that he may not run for presidency after 2027.
Obi disclosed this in a seven-minute video that has been circulating on social media. Also, his media aide, Umar Ibrahim confirmed the authenticity of the video, saying it was a recent clip.
In the video, the former Governor of Anambra state disclosed that he would be contesting in 2027 on the LP’s platform. However, Peter Obi said the 2027 presidential election will be his final run for the presidency.
Peter Obi explained that in 2027, he would be 65 years old and might not be willing to seek public positions after that age. He added that he has always held the belief that there should be a retirement age for politicians in Nigeria.
Additionally, Obi predicted that if a Northern candidate won in the presidential election in 2031, the next election would not come up until 2029. He revealed that by then, he would be 77 years old and running for a public office at that age would mess things up.

However, Obi assured that he would continue to support young Nigerians who commit to national transformation.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate has said that he is not desperate to become the president of Nigeria, rather, he desires a working system for the country. Peter Obi stated this during a Thanksgiving service held on Sunday in Umuahia to commemorate Abia state Governor’s second year in office.
Obi commended Governor Alex Otti for his remarkable infrastructure developments within his first two years in office. He added that he hopes to see more credible leaders like Otti emerge, so Nigeria can be a secure and welcoming home for both citizens and foreigners.
