President Bola Tinubu with Borno state governor, Babagana Zulum, has reviewed strategies to curb the jihadist factions of Boko Haram. The meeting, held on Monday focused on strengthening security through the deployment of forest guards and delivery of ammunition.

The discussion follows after a week of complaints from the governor of Borno state concerning Boko Haram and the ISWAP. Zulum warns that without rapid reinforcement, local government areas in the state could again fall into militant control.

The Governor briefed the president on his one-week tour of areas, where the military faces continued attacks from ISWAP.

According to report, the jihadist factions have attacked towns and civilians across the state, with 15 overrun millitary outpost. Zulum also recalled that the group was one town away from overrunning a local government area in the state.

However, the governor is optimistic after the meeting, briefing the state house correspondents about the discussion with the president. The Head of state expressed that the president has promised support to control the situation.

He adds that the Nigerian Armed Forces have taken certain decisions to subdue the militants in the state. According to him, Tinubu has approved the establishment of armed forest guards to secure terrain used by militants for supply.

He stated that the Senate supports the initiative and calls for the deployment of guards from the affected communities to ensure trust. The governor pledges continued state support for federal forces through expanded civilian joint task force units.

Zulum adds that he will work to strengthen the community and complement the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He called on the Forces, civilian authorities and affected concerns to support and defend the state from further territorial attack.

Zulum concludes by reassuring the residents that no community in the area will again be overrun by the jihadists.
