Nigeria’s Youth Development Minister, Ayodele Olawande, announced on Tuesday the launch of a youth-led tech hub in Akwa Ibom. The facility was unveiled during the 2025 ARISE youth skills week at the state E library.

Olawande revealed the hub is an initial facility for a planned network across all 31 local government areas statewide. Speaking at the unveiling, the minister praised the state as Nigeria’s first to establish a youth-focused, innovation-driven tech hub.

The hub, named “Green House” by the minister, is envisioned as a centre for youth-driven innovation and enterprise development. Olawande also lauded the governor of the state, Umo Eno, as a visionary leader for youth growth.

According to him, the establishment of the hub is possible through the governor’s developmental and citizen-friendly initiatives. He said the governor’s actions are changing the campaign from “One Youth, Two Skills” to “One Local Government, One Product.”

The minister continued by emphasizing the need for deliberate and sustained investment in acquiring digital skills. Following his remarks, he concluded by urging Nigerian youths to develop multiple skills as a means to reduce reliance.

Furthermore, the hub, equipped with digital tools and internet access, was developed to foster innovation and technological advancement among the youth. In addition, the facility is designed to provide an enabling environment for skill acquisition and the development of creative ideas.

The ARISE Youth Friendly initiative is aimed at equipping youths with the tools and platform needed to thrive in the digital world. To wrap up the event, prizes were presented to outstanding youths who pitched technological solutions to various socio-economic challenges.
