Chukwuma Umeoji, an aspirant for the Anambra governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has stepped down. The revelation surfaced late on Friday night just a few hours into the APC primary election that is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 5 2025.

As revealed, the well-known politician said he decided to quit the race after making consultations with his supporters. Confirming the withdrawal is Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary.

The party executive assured that Umeoji, despite exiting the race, will work to ensure the emergence of APC’s candidate. Following his retreat, top personalities like Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Nicholas Ukachukwu, Paul Chukwuma, Onunkwo Johnbisco Obinna, Valentine Ozigbo, and Edozie Madu will lock horns for the party’s ticket.

According to the schedule of INEC, party primaries must be conducted between March 2025 and April 10, 2025. Meanwhile, the ruling party in Anambra state, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) fixed April 5 for its primaries, a one-horse race without any opponent against incumbent, Charles Soludo.

Ahead of the APC primaries, one of the leading aspirants, Paul Chukwuma, urged delegates to vote wisely tomorrow. Chukwuma emphasized the need to field a candidate with an innovative vision for Anambra State.

Likewise, the aspirant went on to declare himself as the best aspirant ahead of the primaries. Backing his claim, Chukwuma pointed out how he served in various capacities for APC, both at the state and federal levels.
