Professor Chukwuma Soludo is set to compete with Chief George Moughalu and Nicholas Ukachukwu in a bid for his re-election as the governor of Anambra state. The incumbent governor, in an unopposed primary election held on Saturday, clinched the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The sitting governor, immediately after his confirmation as the winner of the APGA primaries, announced Dr Onyeka Ibezim as his running mate. In his speech, Soludo vowed to continue representing the people of Anambra and APGA in good faith.
While promising never to let the people of the state down, Soludo declared war against his opponent, insisting the masses are behind the party. However, in a separate primary election for the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nicholas Ukachukwu defeated the likes of Valentine Ozigbo, Johnbosco Onunkwo, and Edozie Madu to emerge as the party’s candidate for the gubers.
Ukachukwu won the APC primary election in a flawless style with 1,455 votes, as his nearest opponent, Ozigbo only claimed 67 votes. Recall that before the APC primaries, notable aspirants including Prof Obiora Okonkwo and Chukwuma Umeoji stepped down, giving Ukachukwu more edge.
Shortly after his victory, Ukachukwu thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring that the intra-party election went smoothly. He went on to point out his strength to unseat Chukwuma Soludo ahead of the November 2025 gubernatorial election.
Highlighting his antecedents, Ukachukwu narrated how he played cogent roles in previous elections in the state, describing his role as a “godfather”. Now, the aspirant said he is willing to serve.
Anambra is under LP’s control – Moughalu
Conversely, at the LP primary election held the same day, Moughalu floored his only opposition, John Nwosu by 573 votes to 19. Similarly, the LP candidate for the Anamabra 2025 governorship election said he’s ready to edge the incumbent governor.
Moughalu discussed how his experience across the private and public sectors remains a crucial advantage for him in the coming elections. He established that Anambra is under the control of LP, pointing out how the party has two senators representing the state.
Additionally, he stated that emerging statistics indicate that by 2027, the LP will clinch the presidency. However, shortly before the LP primaries, John Bosco withdrew from the process complaining about irregularities.
