The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man possessing 1,100 rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect was nabbed in Nkpor, near Onitsha, the commercial centre of the state.
The spokesman for the state command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press statement on Saturday, said the suspect identified as Akpan Godwin ‘m’, confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition.
The suspect also mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.
Ikenga said police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Akwuzu acting on credible information arrested the suspect on Friday.
The statement further stated that an investigation and a manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices have begun, assuring that new developments will be communicated to the public.
“The Anambra State Police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, acting on credible information on Friday, arrested one Akpan Godwin ‘m’, aged 65 years, in possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.
“Meanwhile the operatives have stepped up the investigation/manhunt to uncover and apprehend all accomplices. Further developments will be communicated,” the statement read in part.
