Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo becomes the first Black African artist chosen to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The music icon is named among 35 stars selected for the Hollywood Walk of Fame Class of 2026 honorees.
The 64-year-old is commended as Africa’s premier diva during a press conference announcing the list on Wednesday. The singer, with 5 Grammy awards was among the 35 names listed for the class 2026 Walk of Fame.
Kidjo is honored with the star after making music for four decades and releasing 16 albums. She attracted international fans across the world with her ability to merge African styles with jazz, R&B, and much more.
Kidjo joins South African actress Charlize Theron in championing Africa on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with over 2,700 stars. Former Basketball player, Shaquille O’Neal, and singer Miley Cyrus, among others, are among those set to be honored with a star.

Burnaboy, Alicia Keys, and much more are some of the artist’s impressive list of collaborators. As of the time this report was filed, the official date for the artist’s Walk of Fame star remains unannounced.
Recipients have two years to schedule induction ceremonies after they have been selected for a star. The musical icon born in Benin left for Paris in 1983 due to the oppression of the country’s communist government.
Speaking on her motivation, she says curiosity has always driven her to understand life, things around her, and her place. Kidjo began as a backing singer in France before rising as a solo artist in 1990 with her debut album Parakou.
Also, the songstress has her charity,called Batonga focusing on promoting young girls’ education in Africa.
