The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers said to be part of a 20-man gang after their operation.
The gang, armed with guns, machetes, knives, and sticks reportedly invaded the Madina Quarters and Fadaman Mada areas of the state on August 16, 2025.
The Punch gathered that, they reportedly stormed the areas in the early hours of the day, dispossessing about 10 residents of valuables, including 14 mobile phones, two television sets, two male gowns, and N100,000 cash.
The spokesperson for the command, Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrests in a statement shared with the pressmen over the weekend.
“On 16/08/2025, at about 03:20 hrs, a distress call was received from an anonymous source disclosing that between 02:00 hrs and 03:00 hrs, a group of about 20 armed robbers stormed Madina Quarters and, behind the old graveyard, the Fadaman Mada area of Bauchi, encroached into many houses, and robbed the occupants of their valuables,” he stated.
Wakil further added that operatives from the C Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, collaborated with local vigilante members.
While on sighting the team, the robbers fled, abandoning some stolen items.
“Soon after, detectives conducting visibility patrol around 05:03 hrs of the same date arrested one of the culprits, Ahmed Hassan, 20, of the Tirwun area, Bauchi, roaming Warinje Hills with a robbed Gionee mobile phone in his possession,” he disclosed.
According to the statement, Hassan’s confession led to the arrest of three others: 18-year-old Ismail Isah (alias Masha), 19-year-old Uzaifa Abubakar (alias Damo), and 20-year-old Abdulhamid Idris.
Recovered exhibits included a locally made revolver, one live 7.62 mm ammunition, a knife, a short Dane gun, two machetes, and a torchlight.
“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being responsible for various armed robbery operations within the Bauchi metropolitan area.
“Efforts are ongoing to track and arrest their remaining accomplices. The suspects will be profiled and charged in court upon completion of the investigation,” Wakil added.
