The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has ordered two senior staff of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, to refund N597,000 for illegally selling off school property.
The officers, Principal Musa Ahmed and a Senior Master, Adamu Shehu, were also demoted by one grade level for gross misconduct.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the commission’s Information Officer, Dahiru Adamu, on Thursday in Bauchi.
According to him, the decision followed a thorough investigation carried out by a four-member committee set up by the overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Bashe.
The officers were found guilty of conniving to sell off 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminum pots and roofing zinc without authorisation from the state Ministry of Education.
“They sold 32 scrapped students beds, nine jumbo aluminum pots and roofing zinc,” Adamu said.

He added that the commission approved their demotion and directed that both officers be transferred to different schools where they will resume teaching.
“The commission has therefore approved the demotion of the two officers by one grade and they will be posted to different schools to teach,” he stated.
The Information Officer further said the duo would refund the sum of N597,000, which is the value of the items sold. The committee also directed the principal, Musa Ahmed, to pay N72,000 being unpaid allowances of casual workers he owed.
He noted that the commission would work with security agencies to ensure the recovery of the items.
