The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman, Aisha Achimugu, from its custody within 24 hours.

Justice Inyang Ekwo gave the order on Wednesday during a brief ruling, warning the anti-graft agency to comply without delay. The judge directed all parties involved to return to court on May 2, 2025, to confirm compliance with the order.

“The EFCC is hereby ordered to release the applicant within 24 hours and report back to this court on the next adjourned date,” Justice Ekwo ruled.

Achimugu, who is under investigation for alleged money laundering and other related offences, was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday by EFCC operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Afrocover said, earlier on Monday, the court had instructed the businesswoman to present herself at the EFCC office to assist with the ongoing probe.

Justice Ekwo also mandated that following her appearance, the commission must bring her before the court on Wednesday, April 30, to update the court on developments.
