Anambra state police command has arrested three suspects for their involvement in defiling three minors, aged five to 14. The spokesman for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed that the suspects will soon face the full weight of the law.
According to him, the accused persons were arrested at different police divisions in Eziowele, Oba and Ogidi areas of the state. He revealed on Sunday that the evidence for the suspect’s persecution had been secured by police operatives.
Ikenga made known that all suspects are in custody and shall be charged in court on Wednesday, September 3, 2025
One of the suspects, Ihechiluru Okorie, arrested on August 19, 2025, confessed to forcibly having carnal knowledge of the victim when she came to barb her hair in his shop. Secondly, on August 13, 2025, security operatives arrested one Udem, aged 28 years, over the defilement of a five-year-old girl.
Authorities confirmed that the accused visited the victim at her grandmother’s house, where he had forcefully sexually assaulted her. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital, where a medical examination confirmed a case of defilement.

The third suspect, one Kalu, aged 30 years, was arrested by Ogidi authorities over defilement of a 13-year-old daughter of his neighbour. Investigations showed that the suspect allegedly went to the victim’s house, who is mentally challenged, where he forcefully defiled her.
CP Orutugu berates suspects for defilement
Reacting to this, the Commissioner of Police for the state, Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the acts of the alleged criminals. Also, the Commissioner assured the public that the Command will ensure diligent prosecution to secure justice for the victims.
He also urged parents and community leaders to be vigilant and to report any incidents of sexual or gender-based violence to the nearest police station. The CP continued by reiterating the Command’s commitment to protecting the rights of children and vulnerable persons across the State.
