The Super Eagles of Nigeria secured a vital 2-0 victory over the Amavubi of Rwanda in Kigali, reigniting their FIFA World Cup qualification aspirations.
This win, which marked the end of Nigeria’s winless streak in the Rwandan capital also served as a triumphant debut for new head coach Eric Chelle.
Star striker Victor Osimhen scored both goals with a strike in eacSin the victory, netting both goals in the first half. The first came in the 12th minute when Ademola Lookman’s precise free-kick found Osimhen at the back post, who made no mistake in converting the opportunity.
Osimhen doubled the lead just before halftime, showcasing his prowess by winning possession and executing a deft chip over the Rwandan goalkeeper.
This result propels Nigeria up the group standings, breathing new life into their World Cup qualification campaign.
However, the win still leaves the Chelle’s men in 4th Position in the group on 6 points 4 behind leaders Bafana Bafana of South Africa who earlier defeated Lesotho 2-0 while the Amavubi of Rwanda are in third position with 7 points.
The Squirrels of Benin Republic are in second position with 8 points.
The Super Eagles are next in action on Tuesday against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
