On Monday, the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal will begin its prehearing on the petitions regarding the declaration of the state’s just-concluded election.
Recall that Monday Okpebholo, the all-progressive Candidate, was declared the September 21, 2024 poll winner. He won 291,667 votes, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party candidates Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata.
The tribunal’s secretary, Muazu Bagudu, made this development known in Benin yesterday.
Displeased with INEC’s declaration, the People’s Democratic Party and six other political parties that participated in the election approached the tribunal to challenge the outcome.
The three-person tribunal inaugurated a week before the election, is expected to hear seven petitions filed by different political parties and their candidates.
