The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended 12 suspects for vandalizing and stealing electric cables and transformers in Ado Ekiti, the State capital and other areas of the state.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Wednesday that the suspects were arrested in various criminal hideouts within and outside the state capital.

He said, “Following reports of vandalisation of electric cables and transformers in the state, the Ekiti State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, in collaboration with non-state actors, launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

“This effort yielded positive results as operatives swooped on their various hideouts on February 22, 2025, around 1:30 pm and arrested 12 suspects.”

Abutu also said investigations revealed that the suspects had confessed to the crimes, adding that several stolen items were recovered from them, including rolls of armoured cables, recline cables, aluminium conductors, a transformer feeder pillar, binding wires, electrical cables, and generator parts.

The police spokesperson however, noted that the suspects will be arraigned accordingly.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Joseph Eribo, has warned criminals in the state to desist from their activities, vowing that the police would not relent in their efforts to clamp down on criminal elements.
