The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos for rehabilitation work.

In a statement on Sunday, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, linked the closure to the ongoing asphalt phase of the A2 Taxiway link rehabilitation.

According to her, the closure will take place from 3:00 AM on March 3, 2025, to 11:59 PM on March 4, 2025.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that there will be a temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, from 03:00 Hrs on March 3, 2025, to 23:59 Hrs on March 4, 2025.

“The closure is due to ongoing rehabilitation work (asphalt phase) at the A2 Taxiway link of the runway,” the statement read.

Orah described the rehabilitation as part of FAAN’s ongoing efforts to maintain the runway in optimal condition.

She assured the public that flight operations will not be disrupted as all flights will be redirected to the alternative runway, 18L/36R.

“This is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the runway remains in optimal condition. There will be no disruption to flight operations during this period, as flights will be redirected to the alternative runway, 18L/36R,” she said.

Furthermore, Orah reiterated FAAN’s commitment to safety, security, and passenger comfort.

“FAAN remains committed to its core values of safety, security, and comfort,” she added.
