Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has heaped praises for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a necessary step to restore peace and stability.
Fani-Kayode made his remarks in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account immediately after the declaration, where he described the move as “bold and commendable.”
“The declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a bold and commendable move that will return sanity to the state. I also believe this will go a long way in bringing all the major players in the conflict back to their senses,” he wrote.

He further likened the political crisis to children fighting, adding, “When children refuse to stop fighting, the father must step in lest they burn the house down.”
Tinubu’s decision comes amid rising political tension and security concerns in the oil-rich state.
As part of the emergency measures, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and 27 lawmakers have been suspended for six months. Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) has been appointed as the state’s interim administrator.
Meanwhile, Vice Admiral Ibas is expected to take charge immediately, working to restore order and address pressing governance issues in the state.
