The Global Senior Pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, has denied making derogatory remarks about the family of the late Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, founder of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), while also tendering an apology to the church and the revered cleric’s family.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 14, 2025, Fatoyinbo said his attention had been drawn to a release by CAC News regarding comments credited to him in a sermon, which were allegedly perceived as unflattering towards Babalola’s children.
While appreciating the CAC leadership for addressing the matter “in an exemplary Christian manner,” Fatoyinbo stressed that his remarks had been misconstrued. He maintained that at no point did he speak ill of the late apostle’s children, describing them instead as “shining examples of generational impact” and role models for children of visionaries.
“I would never in any way take lightly the grace over Apostle Babalola, his children or his ministry for granted or speak lightly of same,” Fatoyinbo said. “The raw copy of the message is online and can be verified.”
The COZA pastor recalled his deep admiration for Apostle Babalola, noting that many churches in Nigeria, including his own ministry, trace their spiritual lineage to the revivalist’s work. He described himself as a beneficiary of the grace upon Babalola’s life and ministry, adding that his formative years in the CAC left an indelible mark on him.
Fatoyinbo went on to commend the apostle’s children, acknowledging their dedication to preserving their father’s legacy and their service to God.
“I remain proud of their achievements and honour them in no small measure,” he said, before offering a public apology to the CAC, the Babalola family, and the apostle’s associates for any distress his comments may have caused.
He further expressed his hope that the clarification would bring closure to the matter, while praying for the continued growth of CAC and the enduring legacy of Apostle Babalola.
