The Federal Government has declared Friday, 5th of September 2025, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The Ministry of Interior made this development known in a statement signed by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
In the statement, the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-ojo, extended his greeting to all Muslim in Nigeria and across the world. He encouraged the Muslim Ummah to imitate the prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance and compassion while emphazing that these virtues are important in building a united and progressive nation.
The statement partly reads, “The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity.”
Tunji-ojo also urged all Nigerians of all faith to use the celebration as an opportunity to pray for the peace, security, and stability of the country while supporting government effort toward national harmony and sustainable development.
Tunji-Ojo, while wishing Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid, he encouraged all citizens to remain law-abiding, security-concious, and supportive of federal government policies directed at enhancing the well -being of all Nigerians.
