The Federal Government of Nigeria has disclosed that it is following the state of the Iran-Israeli war before proceeding with its evacuation plan.
According to The PUNCH, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said the FG is monitoring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
More so, the ministry stated the federal government will continue to prioritize the safety and welfare of Nigerians in diaspora. Consequently, the spokesperson established that the FG is ready to swing into action with its evacuation plan if the conflict escalates further.
FG awaits approval from Armenia to proceed with evacuation plan
Recall that last week, the Federal Government disclosed that there are arrangements in place to evacuate Nigerians stranded in war-torn areas in the Middle East, most especially in Iran. During the week, about 1,000 Nigerians were expected to move back home as they await final approval from the Armenian government.
As part of FG’s plan, the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran has put in place logistics to move Nigerians to Armenia by bus. Thereafter, they would fly back to Nigeria via Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.

However, the Embassy still awaits the approval of the Armenian authorities. To ensure a successful evacuation process, the Nigerian Embassy submitted the lists of evacuees to the Iranian government.
Also, the Nigerian Embassy is working with Tehran to avoid delays at the border and ensure smooth evacuation. Currently, the plan is pending after the United States President, Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between the two countries on Tuesday.
The current crisis started on June 13 after the Israeli government launched various airstrikes at more than 100 nuclear and military facilities in Iran. Iran responded with missile attacks as the conflict escalated, resulting in serious casualties on both sides.
