Former Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun, has died. According to reports, Tafa died at age 74 during a brief illness. He died in a Hospital in Lekki Lagos at about 8:30 pm on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
Late Balogun was appointed as the IGP in 2002 during Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
In addition, Balogun was a member of Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police Course 3. He also worked in various Police commands across the federations and was promoted as of when due.
He was a Principal Staff Officer to the former IGP, Muhammadu Gambo, Deputy Commission of Police, Edo State, the pioneer Commissioner of Police in Delta State.
He further served as a Commissioner of Police in Rivers and Abia states.
Balogun was appointed as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone One Kano State, a position he held till he was appointed as the IGP in 2002.
However, he was convicted in 2005 on eight corruption charges and had his corruption trial reopened in 2020.
