The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide patrol operation ahead of the Eid el-Kabir celebrations on Friday. According to the corps statement, the operation aims to ensure road safety and manage traffic during the festive period.
The operation, with over 36, 000 personnel, including regular and special marshals, will run from June 5 to June 11. The patrol will also be supported by 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, and 25 tow trucks, with over 200 motorbikes.
Similarly, the statement notes that the special patrol will enable prompt rescue operations and facilitate clearance of roadways. Shehu Mohammed, the Corps Marshal, emphasizes the Corps’s commitment to reducing accidents, through patrols and public enlightenment.
According to him, Commanding officers nationwide, have been directed to ensure that 52 pathways of the nation are properly staffed. The Chief commander also appeals to motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations and cooperate with the organization (FRSC).

He continued that mobile courts will be in session across the country for people who don’t obey the traffic regulations. Mohammed also direct the operatives to prioritize traffic control, wrongful overtaking, and driver’s license violations, among others.
He adds that the organization is collaborating with the military, Nigeria Police Force among others, to enhance coordination. The corps has also equipped its officers with radar guns and breathalyzers to monitor speed and stop drunk driving.
According to report, the patrol schedule is divided into shifts from morning to late evening, with rescue teams on standby. The public is therefore advised to use the FRSC national radio (107.1 FM) and toll-free line (122) for traffic-related emergencies.
Mohammed concluded by encouraging road users to cooperate with law enforcement officers and promote responsible driving habits during the festivities.
