FRSC warns NANS against threats, insists on clampdown on fake number plates

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has stood firm in the face of threats from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to shut down FRSC commands nationwide. The controversy stems from the FRSC’s ongoing special operations aimed at curbing the use of fake vehicle number plates, which has led to the impoundment of vehicles belonging to NANS members.

In a statement issued by FRSC on Tuesday, and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC emphasized that the operation is a necessary measure to curb the increasing abuse of Nigerian number plates by organizations and individuals seeking to undermine national security.

In response to NANS’ threats, the FRSC Management has called on the student body’s leadership to reconsider and withdraw their statements. The Corps has directed its Commanding Officers nationwide to resist any intimidation or threats that may compromise their statutory responsibilities.

Despite the tension, the FRSC has expressed its willingness to engage in dialogue with NANS to provide more information and understanding on the ongoing operations. The Corps remains committed to maintaining sanity and regularity in the vehicle registration system, enhancing national security, and keeping the nation’s highways safe and secure for all road users.
