The pro-Jonathan campaign, Bring Back Our Goodluck, has intensified its call for former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election, insisting that his legacy as a unifying leader makes him the right candidate to heal Nigeria’s divisions.
At a press conference held on Sunday at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democracy, Research and Training, Mambayya House in Kano, the group’s National Coordinator, Dr. Grema Kyari, described Jonathan as the “surest path to rescue Nigeria” from the hardship, insecurity, and disunity under the All Progressives Congress-led government.
Kyari urged opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, to set aside personal ambition and rally behind Jonathan as a consensus candidate. “Jonathan remains the surest path to rescue Nigeria,” he said.
The coordinator, who likened Jonathan’s possible comeback to political returns made by Donald Trump in the United States and John Mahama in Ghana, stressed that the 2027 polls would be more than an election but a rescue mission. In a direct appeal to the former president, Kyari said: “In 2015, you chose peace over power. In 2027, Nigeria needs you to choose the people again.”
