The management of Ibadan Polytechnic has launched an investigation into the mysterious accident that resulted in the hospitalization of about 10 students. This incident occurred on Tuesday after the students inhaled an unidentified substance while receiving lectures.

The institution’s Public Relations Officer, Soladoye Adewole, while addressing newsmen on Wednesday, explained that the incident happened in a classroom near the sewage area on campus.

Adewole noted that the classroom area is perfectly fine and has nothing to do with chemicals. He maintained that this was likely an attempt by some unidentified individuals to sabotage the school.

Besides, the Acting Registrar, Adewunmi Ogunjinmi affirmed that the institution has informed Oyo state’s Commissioner for Health of this happening and requested for immediate medical response.

According to the letter, these students inhaled some indeterminable substance causing weakness and daze. As a result, some of the affected students are currently being treated at the institution’s health center while some are receiving medical care at Ring Road State Hospital.

In the same vein, the school’s management has taken prompt actions to curtail this incident by evacuating the entire area.

The institution further pleaded with the Ministry of Health to immediately visit the campus for an examination of the site of the incident.
