Impeached Lagos house speaker Obasa storms amid tension, declares self speaker

The Impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa this morning has stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly complex.

The ousted speaker who was impeached in January amid allegations which includes; poor leadership style, perpetual late coming to the house duties, and many other misconduct.

Obasa, who was replaced by Mojisola Meranda was reportedly stormed the complex with heavy security and headed to the speaker’s office at noon on Thursday.

Also, Afrocover learnt that the security aides to the speaker had earlier been withdrawn amid resignation rumours.

According to viral video on social media, pro-Obasa groups were sighted chanting “on your mandate we shall stand” song in support of the ousted speaker.

However, the embattled speaker, while faulting the process of his impeachment, has said he remains the legitimate speaker of the house.

“I am not disturbed; I am not afraid of the developments that happened at the assembly,” he had said.

“I believe in removal; there’s no impeachment in the assembly. You cannot impeach the speaker. Probably, there’s a mistake from them. You can only remove the speaker, Obasa stated.

“And if you must remove (the speaker), you must ensure you follow the rules of the game. I am not afraid to be removed; what else am I looking for if I have served as speaker, and member of the house of assembly since 2003 up till date? So, what is the problem?

“I believe strongly that I’m still the speaker until the right thing has been done,” the impeached speaker said.
