The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on Nigerians across the country to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to register, correct their personal details, and replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Bauchi State, Umar Ibrahim, made this known during a press briefing on Friday, stressing that the exercise was not limited to new registrants alone but also covered corrections and updates for existing voters.
According to him, the CVR will provide opportunities for fresh registration of new voters, correction of personal details such as names, dates of birth, gender, or addresses, replacement of lost, defaced, or damaged PVCs, transfer of voter registration from one location to another within or across states, as well as the collection of uncollected PVCs from the 2022 exercise across all local government areas.
Ibrahim disclosed that the online pre-registration commenced on Monday, August 18, 2025, while the physical registration is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25, 2025, at designated centres nationwide.

“Both the online and physical processes will run simultaneously until August 30, 2026. To be eligible, one must be a Nigerian citizen, at least 18 years old, not previously registered, and physically present for biometric capture,” he stated.
The REC noted that while the online registration portal is available 24 hours at cvr.inecnigeria.org, physical registration will take place at all INEC State Offices and Local Government Area offices across the federation, between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
He added that the Preliminary Register of Voters would be displayed quarterly for public scrutiny to allow claims, objections, and corrections to ensure that only eligible Nigerians remain on the final register.
The commission, he warned, would not condone multiple or underage registration, registration or collection of PVCs by proxy, or obstruction of officials performing their duties, stressing that such offences attract stiff penalties under the Electoral Act 2022.
“I call on all eligible Nigerians to take full advantage of this opportunity. Please register, update your records where necessary, and collect your PVCs.
“The Commission remains fully committed to ensuring a free, fair, transparent, and inclusive voter registration process,” Ibrahim said.
