The National President of The Igbo for Progressive and United Nationhood (IPAD), Lawrence Onuzulike has called for the cancellation of the sit-at-home order in the region which according to him is unproductive.
In his press statements, the president condemned the action of hoodlums hiding under the umbrella of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in causing mayhem and inflicting setbacks on various sections of the region. The IPAD president also condemned the incessant killing in the country especially the recent killing of Sheu Shagari College of Education Student, Deborah Yakubu, in Sokoto State, Last week.
Additionally, He showed displeasure at some Presidential aspirants for keeping silent on the peace-threatening issues in the region. The President called on relevant authorities to ensure justice over the death of Deborah Yakubu, and work to avoid such occurrences in the future. In his statement, he insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari should not just criticize the act on social media, instead he should ensure that justice prevails.
Furthermore, Onuzulike pointed out that though, The Indigenous People of Biafra leaders have canceled the Monday sit-at-home order. Yet, some members of the group are taking advantage of the situation to commit criminal activities in the South-East region.
IPAD President Condemns killing of fellow Igbo
Onuzulike also addressed the recent killing of the Military couple. He questioned how Igbo people are finding it difficult to repel such a disturbing situation. The IPAD President stressed that if everyone in the Southeast keeps denying their involvement in the sit-at-home, then who are the culprits. He established that it’s quite glaring that those who killed the couple are from the Region. Yet no one could fathom the motivation behind the dreadful act.
Also, Onuzulike called on SouthEast Governors, community leaders, and other relevant security agencies to prioritize the safety of lives and properties. He furthered that Presidential Aspirants from the region shouldn’t focus sorely on their campaigns alone, instead, they should offer a voice to the voiceless.
Lastly, he emphasized that all Igbo Men and Women must embrace Unity at this difficult time. He added that Opinion leaders in the region must call for a round table meeting to address every pressing issue. Onuzulike concluded that Igbo people are tired of the killings and disturbance of carrying out their business activities conveniently.
