The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed the defection of former governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), stating that his departure poses no threat to the party’s stability and growth.
Afrocover reports that El-Rufai recently announced his decision to leave the APC, citing a divergence between his personal values and the party’s current direction.
However, in response to the development, Kaduna APC Secretary, Yahaya Baba-Pate, asserted that the party remains focused on consolidating its influence in the state and securing victory for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani in the 2027 elections.
Speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, Baba-Pate emphasized that the APC in the state continues to attract high-profile politicians daily, reinforcing its strength.
He also dismissed concerns over El-Rufai’s exit, insisting that the party’s inclusive governance under Governor Sani has kept it on a path of steady growth.
“We are not worried about El-Rufai’s defection. Our priority is ensuring that both President Tinubu and Governor Sani retain the state’s support in 2027.
The APC in Kaduna is expanding daily, and defections will not shake our resolve,” Baba-Pate stated.
