Kaduna State College of Nursing Sciences has embarked on a three-day warning strike, suspending all activities in the state. The union condemned the management’s deliberate refusal to promote eligible staff for three years, 2023, 2024, and 2025.
According to reports, lectures and administrative activities were completely suspended as staff withdrew their services, leaving students stranded. In a statement by the union chairman, Daniel Danboyi, the staff accused the college management of neglecting staff welfare.
He disclosed that the warning strike starting today is to stress their demand for the promotion of pending qualified staff. Additionally, the union warned of embarking on an indefinite strike if the management failed to address the union’s demands.
Furthermore, they appealed to the state governor, Uba Sani, to intervene in the union’s promotion cases. The union vowed to prolong the situation into an industrial dispute if not urgently resolved.

Meanwhile, students across the institution’s three campuses in Kaduna, Kafanchan and Pambeguan have expressed concern over the disruption. The students lamented that the strike would derail their academic calendar, which had already suffered from previous industrial action setbacks.
One of the students, Cynthia, said they are worried because this is not the first time their studies have been interrupted. She revealed that the continuous strike is delaying a lot of students who ought to graduate this year.
Another student pleaded for quick intervention to avoid a future decrease in the number of students pursuing nursing careers in the state. Presently, efforts to reach the provost of the college proved abortive, as calls and text messages to his mobile line were not responded to.
