Kwara communities protest against opening of hotels, alcohol joints

Landlords and residents of Kwara communities have opposed the establishment of hotels and alcohol-serving joints in the neighborhoods. Chairman and spokesperson of the communities, Abdulwahab Opeloyeru, told NAN on Monday that the decision was the outcome of a security meeting held between landlords and residents of the area.

According to him, the meeting was prompted by the ongoing construction of a new hotel in the area. He stated that establishing a hotel in the area will encourage social vices and disrupt the existing peace and harmony.

In addition, opeloyeru disclosed that the establishment will pose a security risk to the residents living in the area. Following this, the communities had alerted the State Police Command and the State Town Planning Authority on the matter that this was with a view to allowing for continuous peace to prevail in the area.

Kwara Governor visits troubled community, vows to flush out bandits.

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has visited communities affected by recent attacks in the state. Abdulrazaq commiserated with the victim’s families, reassuring residents of the government’s commitment to strengthening public safety.

According to report, the Babanla community has in recent weeks experienced a surge in criminal activities. Suspected bandits reportedly invaded the community’s main market, fired shots, looted several shops, and made away with foodstuffs and other items.

The governor also pledged social support for affected families, directing the Kwara State Social Investment Programme to assist residents impacted by the attacks.

The community king, Oba Aliyu, commended the Governor and the federal government for their efforts to restore normalcy. The traditional ruler revealed that the bandits snatched nine motorcycles, food items, and phones during the attack.

He therefore urged the government to utilise the vast land in Babanla for economic development. According to him, the vast land will not only boost the economy of the state but also help deny  criminals in hiding places.
