Residents of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, were thrown into shock on Tuesday after the body of a young woman was discovered in a drainage channel along OGTV Road, with her private parts mutilated.

The lifeless body, suspected to be that of a commercial sex worker, was dumped overnight by unknown persons. The discovery, which has sparked fear and outrage in the community, was confirmed by locals who stumbled upon the scene early that morning.

“A lady was found lifeless on Tuesday in a gutter along OGTV Road, Abeokuta. She was suspected to have been used for a ritual; her private part was missing,” a resident, who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the case, told reporters.

“The police came around and took her body to the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye.”

Meanwhile, the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, as no one has been able to provide details about how or when her body was dumped at the location. The brutal nature of the incident has led to strong suspicion of ritual killing.

When contacted on Thursday for an official response, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said she would get back to our correspondent. However, no feedback had been received as of the time this report was filed.

A senior security official in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also confirmed the incident, adding that the deceased was believed to be a commercial sex worker.
