A three storey building under construction at Oriwu Street in Lekki Phase One, Lagos has collapsed, leaving 6 injured and 2 dead. According to the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Damiola Oke-Osanyitolu disclosed that the incident happened around 4pm on Wednesday.

Osanyitolu stated that the two dead were adult males and that the injured persons had been administered immediate medical care. However, the LASEMA official added that the cause of the collapse is still unknown and that further investigations would be conducted.

The official noted that the agency’s heavy-duty equipment has been deployed to the incident scene for rescue operations. Meanwhile, the State Police Command Spokesperson, Benjamin Hudeyin earlier stated that 14 persons were rescued from the rubble.

He noted that the 14 rescued people had been taken to Lagos Island general hospital for treatment and administered care. Hundeyin added that security operatives remain on the ground to maintain order and provide security as rescue efforts continue.
