The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State has condemned the decamping of Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor to the All Progressive Congress (APC). Adediran, a former member of the APC, announced his return to the party at a news conference in Lagos on Monday.
The Lagos PDP’s flag bearer in the 2023 gubernatorial election, declared his resignation from the PDP on 3 March 2025. Likewise, Jandor, like previous defectors, cited the internal crisis resulting from a lack of discipline and betrayal by party leaders.
On the flip side, the Deputy Chairman of the PDP in Lagos, Tai Benedict said that Adediran’s defection is beneficial to the PDP. Benedict, while reacting to the defection in an interview, alleged that the APC planted Jandor to destabilize the PDP and he was never “our own”.
He explained that the actions and steps taken by Jandor since he joined the party have jeopardized the stability of the party. Benedict noted that it’s worrisome to lose members to other parties, however, defections like this bring good to the party.
Meanwhile, the APC chapter in the state has embraced Adediran as a member of the party, defining him as a dynamic young individual who has simply returned to his roots. The party’s publicity secretary, Seye Oladejo in an interview on Monday said that the APC is ready to work with the latest member.
He added that there are sufficient opportunities for Jandor and other interested members to contribute to the success and growth of the party. Furthermore, Oladejo dismissed the PDP’s accusation that the APC planted Jandor to destabilize their party as an absurd claim.
The APC spokesperson stated that the opposition party is just making excuses for their incompetence to put their house in order. Lastly, Oladejo revealed that the party would be expecting more politicians to defect to APC ahead of the next election.
