Landowners in Alagbaka, Akure, have asked landlords in the area to either vacate or sign a new agreement deal. The Olokunjuwon and Umelu families maintained that the landlords allegedly trespassed on their land, following the court judgment.

However, the Alagbaka property owners asserted that the case is still being appealed at the Supreme Court. The landlords noted that the families are enforcing a 2017 court judgment that had been suspended by the Akure High Court.

Fred Ojo, chairman of the landlord association in Alagbaka, described the action of the families as harassment and unlawful. Ojo stated that the families had passed notices on their houses, calling for the regularization of their land rights.

The chairman continued by urging the land owners to wait for the final judgment of the Supreme Court. Ojo also warned the court-awarded claimants against committing contempt of court.

However, the landowners rendered the Landlord’s position weak and invalid, in a statement on Sunday. The families stated that the Supreme Court had dismissed the request to appeal the 2017 judgment on the land dispute.

They maintained that the landlord’s assertion that the case is pending at the Supreme Court, is untrue and misleading. The families continued that the appeal application had been dismissed by the Supreme Court on April 4, 2025.

They also stated that the high court rejected the landlord’s appeal, noting their failure to follow proper legal procedure. The families explained that the pending case claim by the landlords does not relate to the subject matter of ownership.

They urge the public to disregard the appeal claim by the landowners, maintaining that no changes were made to the land.
