London Mayor Sadiq Khan has arrived in Lagos to meet with local creatives and tech entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The visit intends to showcase the expanding cultural and economic partnership between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Khan revealed that over two dozen British companies in technology and sustainability accompanied him to Lagos. The goal is to deepen ties between Lagos and the UK, enabling both tech hubs to grow and thrive together.

The mayor’s visit marks the start of a five-day African tour with upcoming stops in Accra, Johannesburg, and Cape Town. Khan emphasised that London is committed to supporting Nigerian tech businesses who want to expand and invest in the United Kingdom.

He revealed that the visit spotlights the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in the digital economy and creative industries. According to experts, the collaboration between Nigeria and the UK is full of innovation and intellectual exchange.

The visit assembled artists, designers, tech founders, and cultural leaders who operate at the intersection of innovation and storytelling. Speaking at the event, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, founding partner at Future Africa, emphasized the importance of the collaboration.

Aboyeji highlighted key areas to learn from the visit, including infrastructure, global talent, livability, and AI regulation. Also, Lagos Commissioner for Science and Tech announced a Victoria Island bridge, stronger than broadband and faster than the Elizabeth Line.

Lagos continues to stand out on the global stage for its rising influence in fashion, music, film, and financial technology. Nigeria’s young population and booming fintech scene are driving innovation, gaining international recognition through its tech ecosystem, Silicon Lagoon.
