The children of late Chief Moshood Abiola have called for the official enactment of June 12, as democracy day. The children made the passionate appeal during the annual prayer held for their father in Abeokuta.
They also ask for the refurbishment of Abiola’s family house in Ogun state to preserve Abiola’s memories. One of the children, Ameen Abiola, appreciates the Federal and the state government for their continuous support for the family.
He commends the government for honoring the late politician with the highest national award, among other commendations. However, Ameen points out that June 12 should be enacted to preserve the democracy day celebration till the end of time.
According to him, the future generation may not understand the roles played by the late politicians to democratize the nation. He therefore asks for preservatives and protection of Abiola’s legacy in a way it won’t be tampered with by coming generations.
Another son of the late politician, Abdulrahman Abiola calls for the national monument of their father’s house in Ogun state. Abdulrahman disclosed that Abiola is worthy of a national monument due to his contributions and what he stood for democratically.
