Five people have been confirmed dead after a yet-to-be-identified motorist rammed into dancers during a new year party. The party was organized by some friends in the Akinmori community in the Afijio Local Government area of Oyo State. As of now, four of the victims are in critical condition.

It was gathered that the trouble started when the perpetrator was lambasted by his colleagues for reckless driving into the party venue. According to an eyewitness report, the criticism didn’t go well with the motorist as he entered his car with annoyance.

The eyewitness said, “The young man drove into the venue of the party at top speed and was scolded by his friends who were already at the party.”

The witness further that “After the intervention of some elders, the young man entered his car reluctantly. Still angry at the confrontation, he vowed to spill blood. Then he started the car and zoomed into the dancing friends, knocking down over 10 people.”

In addition, further investigation revealed that three of his friends were in the car with him at the time of the event. Also, the three friends have been arrested after the motorist fled the scene.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation had commenced.
