The national assembly has suspended all legislative activities as a mark of respect to the late former president, Muhammadu Buhari. The former president passed away on Sunday in London, United Kingdom, at the age of 82 after a brief illness.
According to the Clerk of the Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, plenary sessions and all related activities have been suspended until July 22, 2025. This decision, he noted, was made to pay homage to the late president’s legacy and unwavering service to the country.
In addition, the administration extended its condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina, and the Nigerian populace. Speaking on the matter, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele described the late president and Awujale as advocates of unity and integrity.
According to him, the two leaders who died on July 13 signify a major loss in Nigeria’s political and traditional leadership. He continued by commending the late president’s legacy and commitment from military leadership to his democratic tenure as Nigeria’s president.

Describing the Awujale of Ijebuland, Opeyemi portrayed the late king’s 65-year reign as one of inclusive policies and selfless service. The senate leader commended the late king Adetona’s political stance and his cohesiveness across religious and ethnic lines.
In addition, he extended condolences to the Anikilaya ruling house and the Ogun State government, acknowledging the king’s contribution to national development. Furthermore, the House of Representatives mourned the late president’s death, highlighting him as a key figure in Nigeria’s historical journey.
They noted that his passing marks the end of an era characterized by steadfast commitment to Nigeria’s democratic development.
