The founder and executive director of the Muslim Right Concern (MURIC), Professor Ishaq Akintola has condemned the lynching of a woman identified as Amaye over alleged blasphemous statement in Kasuwan-Garba town, Maria Local Government Area of Niger State.
He made this development known in a statement released on Monday where he depicts the attack as unlawful, brutal and un-islamic and implore the intervention of the police.
The statement reads, “MURIC condemns this killing in the strongest terms. It is Bohemian, extrajudicial, barbaric and unIslamic.
“The killers must be brought to book. We charge the Niger State Police Command to immediately set the machinery in motion to arrest, detain, and prosecute the culprits. There will be no respect for the rule of law if mob killing goes unpunished,” the statement added.
Recall that, Amaye, who was a food seller was lynched on Saturday, around 2:00pm by youths of the Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State over claims that she made a blasphemous statement against Prophet Muhammad.
According to report, Amaye made the blasphemous statement while exchanging words with a young man who was said to be her nephew after he jokingly told told her he wanted to marry her to “fulfil the Sunnah”. The statement led to the outrage of the youth in the community.
Amaye was taken to palace of the District Head where she allegedly made the blasphemous statement again.
She was later handed over to security operatives, but a mob of angry youth overpowered the security operatives who stoned and set her ablaze before the security reinforcement could arrive.
