The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted multiple attempts to smuggle illicit drugs across the Nigerian borders. The agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi disclosed this in a statement posted on its official webpage on Sunday.
Babafemi explained that the drug couriers concealed narcotics such as cocaine, tramadol, loud and molly in prayer beads, packs of board games, and female clothes. Then they attempted to ship the drugs to the United States, Saudi Arabia, Italy, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the statement, the agency arrested two suspects of drug trafficking at the Murtala Muhammad Airport in the Ikeja area of Lagos. The spokesperson mentioned that the agency arrested a 43-year-old businesswoman, Jakpor May while trying to board a flight to Italy on 8 March.
When interrogated on the parcel of skunk and the 190 parcels of 225g tramadol found in her luggage, Jakpor claimed that she bought the drugs herself to resell in Italy.
Additionally, NDLEA arrested a 60-year-old suspect, identified as Yahaya Ayinla at the export shed of the airport. The officers apprehended him while trying to ship a cargo containing clothes used to conceal 400 grams of skunk going to New York, US.

Babafemi further noted that some drug traffickers use logistics companies to smuggle illicit drugs in Lagos. He explained that the agency recently thwarted efforts to export narcotics hidden in Vitamin C bottles and female clothes to the US.
Similarly, the NDLEA’s officers in Taraba, on Friday, arrested a 35-year-old suspect, Polycarp Adeku at Kurmi LGA of the state. The officers found 15.77kg of skunk in the suspect’s possessions.
