The operatives of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) made progress in combating drug trafficking in Nigeria by disassembling a transborder drug syndicate. This significant breakthrough led to the arrest of 4 suspects, and the seizure of tramadol pills worth millions of naira.
In a statement by the agency Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, the pills were hidden in vehicle bumpers and false compartments. He disclosed that the vehicles were intercepted along Toto Raod Keffi, Nasarawa State.
Babafemi further mentioned that two suspects, Abubakar Usman 44, and Zahradeen Adamu, 27 were arrested in the vehicle traveling from Onitsha to Adamawa State. He added that a second bus driven by Abba Usman, 48 was also stopped for inspection.
Babafemi stated that operatives discovered specially designed steel containers concealed within the back bumpers, as well as room for spare tyres. Further Investigations revealed the involvement of one Kingsley Mbaeri, based in Onitsha, Anambra State.
As revealed Mbaeri as the supplier of the seized consignment. Also, a follow up operation led to the arrest of Mbaeri and recovery of two vehicles In his residence.
How NDLEA intercepted other drugs operations
Furthermore, Babafemi revealed that the NDLEA intercepted a commercial bus at Abaji checkpoint in Abuja in a recent operation. He disclosed that Chimezie Henry, a passenger, was found carrying a bag that contained 404.47 grams of methamphetamine, among other illegal substances.
He also revealed that the NDLEA operatives in Ekiti state raided a drug joint at ikole which lead to the arrest of 3 suspects.The suspects which are Bala Mohammed, 57, yahaya Adamu 55 and Abdullahi shehu, 30 were arrested for possession of 83 grams of skunk.
Lastly, the NDLEA emphasized its commitment towards combating the circulation of illegal drugs across the country.
