Governor Seyi Makinde has reinforced the security of the ancient city of Oyo and its neighbouring communities ahead of the coronation of Alaafin Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade. As part of the move, the state government deployed security operatives to key positions in the city to ensure the smooth coronation of the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.

More so, the coronation is the next step in the king-making process after Oba Owoade completed the mandatory 21-day traditional ritual known as Oro Ipebi on March 29. Recall that the new king received the staff and instruments of office in early January at the office of the state governor in Ibadan.

Meanwhile, the coronation event will come up at the Oliveth Baptist High School, Oyo. Furthermore, the ceremony will extend to other venues including Ladigbolu Grammar School, Durbar Stadium, the Oba Lamidi Adeyemi Mini Stadium, and the Palace of the Alaafin of Oyo.

Top dignitaries including the former Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, the state governor, Seyi Makinde and ambassadors from various nations will grace the event. Reports indicated that more than 200 indigenes of the ancient city living in Canada, monarchs, diplomats and government officials will grace the event.

Special vehicles, gadgets, and personnel have mounted key locations like Owoade, Jabata, Alesan, Isale Oyo, Eleekara, and the School of Survey. However, reports established that the popular Akesan market will not open during the coronation ceremony, encouraging locals to join the celebration.

Before emerging as the Alaafin Oyo, Oba Owoade enjoyed a successful career that spanned across engineering, finance, real estate, oil and gas, and hydroelectric power. The monarch clinched the throne as the representative of the Owoade-Agunloye family
