The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago, has announced a donation of one billion naira to assist victims of the recent devastating floods in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.
The governor made the announcement during a visit to the affected areas, where he assessed the damage to homes destroyed by the flood.
Speaking to the community, Governor Bago expressed his sympathy for the victims and reassured them of the state government’s commitment to their well-being.
He revealed plans to provide ten trucks each of rice, beans, maize, millet, and sorghum to support the affected individuals. This is part of the ongoing relief efforts aimed at alleviating the hardship caused by the disaster.
Governor Bago also outlined a detailed plan for the distribution of the donated funds and supplies. He emphasized that all contributions would be properly managed and distributed through a special committee headed by his deputy, Mr. Yakubu Garba. This committee will ensure that the resources reach the victims in an accountable and transparent manner.
In addition, the governor pledged long-term support to the victims. He announced that the state government will provide resettlement land and services to those affected by the flood. As part of this initiative, he instructed the Ministry for Land and Survey to issue a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the Federal Government, facilitating the swift construction of new homes for the displaced individuals.
While awaiting the construction of resettlement homes by the Federal Government, the governor assured the public that arrangements would be made to relocate the victims from the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp. The state’s efforts will continue until the affected individuals are settled into permanent homes.
