Nigerian Army debunks rumor regarding terrorist attack

The Nigerian Army has debunked rumors regarding a terrorist attack on the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI in Maiduguri.

The army debunked the rumor through a press release issued by the acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation HADIN KAI, Rueben Kovangiya.

In the statement, the headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI Maiduguri gave details on the incident involving the explosion. The army revealed that the attack resulted from the ordinance of one of their ammunition storage facilities located in Giwa Barracks.

The statement reads “ The explosion was due to the current high temperatures in Maiduguri which led to the explosion of some munitions.

“The situation has however, been brought under control with the combined efforts of the Borno State Fire Service Department and other fire trucks from security agencies.”

“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been deployed to protect the public and prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation.”

The men of the Nigerian Army also urged the members of the general public to desist from spreading misinformation about a terrorist attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council. They also urged the general public to maintain peace and remain calm.At the time of making this report, there have been no reports of any loss of life.

Recall that the incident reportedly occurred at about 12:05 am, with loud blasts and red flares lighting the sky, forcing resident out of their homes.
