The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has notified the public of flood threats in July. Sokoto, Lagos, Edo and Benue are reportedly at risk of experiencing severe and rapid flash floods.

The agency stated on Monday that continuous nationwide rainfall may lead to high flash flood risks in several states. Other states like Ondo, Bayelsa, Jigawa, Adamawa, Taraba, among others, have notable risks of flash flooding.

The agency head, Charles Onosike, urges residents in the states to relocate if necessary and prepare emergency kits during flooding. Also, the agency has predicted thundery and rainy weather conditions from today till Wednesday across the country.

The weather bureau outlook report shows patches of cloud and morning thunderstorms across Adamawa and Taraba states. There are also rain prospects and thunderstorms in states like Zamfara, Kebbi and Kaduna states.

The bureau disclose that sunny skies with cloudy intervals are expected in kogi, Niger, plateau, among other states. In the southern region, there are prospects of a cloudy atmosphere with morning rains in Lagos, Ondo, Delta and so on.

Isolated rains are expected in the afternoon or evening hours, over parts of Ekiti, imo, Abia, Ebonyi, and more. Morning thunderstorms, coupled with rain, are expected over parts of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Jigawa, according to NIMET.

However, the agency is set to establish a mini automatic weather station (AWOS) to maintain and manage the weather station. The station will be established at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria at the Energy Research Training Centre.

NIMET stated that there would be easy access for students for teaching and training purposes. Charles Onosike, and ABU vice chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, signed on behalf of their institutions.
